When it comes to finding the right college major for you, there is a lot to consider. In order to decide what you’d like to study, here’s what you’ll want to keep in mind.
- Your Interests. This is the most important factor to consider when choosing your field of study! Think about what you are passionate about, or what you want to learn in the future. Is there a certain topic or industry that you want to learn more about? Write down a list of what you enjoy – can you see yourself pursuing a degree related to any of those things? If you can’t envision yourself majoring in something that relates to any of those interests, consider a minor instead. The options are endless!
- Your Future. Although a degree does not necessarily determine your future career path, it can have an influence. Maybe your end goal is attending law or medical school, writing for a publication, or opening your own business. Think about what you want to do down the road – what coursework will help you get closer to dreams? If you’re not sure what you want to do, don’t worry! Continue exploring your options, talking to teachers and advisors, and researching different fields.
- Available Opportunities. Choosing a major is up to you and only you, but there are outside factors that may influence the decision. For example, what’s the job market like for your field of study? Or, what majors and minors does your university offer? Financial factors are also important. There are many scholarships that cater to specific degrees and fields, so do your research! The Escape to Create Scholarship is open until July 22, and encourages applicants to exercise their own creativity. Apply today!
